Southeast Chapter November Meeting

November 21, 2022 @ 7:00 pm 8:30 pm

At our November meeting our chapter will be gathering as a group indoors for the first time since March of 2020, when the pandemic forced us to meet only in webinar mode or outdoors on field trips and garden walks. It will be a delight to gather together again inside. (We will follow Stockton’s current policy: masks are optional.)

One of the features that we missed most during the last two years was the lively back-and-forth before and after presentations when we shared experiences of garden successes, discoveries, questions, and suggestions. So, since it’s been so long, we will be dedicating our entire November meeting to an open discussion.

We will begin with a short review of the best current sources for information about native plants – books, websites, and apps. Jesse and Jack will start us off with an update of their discussion and handout from way back in November 2013 when we last took up this subject. Some of those sources are still valuable and many new ones have appeared. What sources do you turn to when you have a gardening or botany question? If you have a particular book, app, or other source that you have learned to trust, please bring it along.

Next, we will move to 2022 summer’s heat and drought: Which of your natives fared well? Which did not? What methods or tricks worked for you? Any lessons learned for future dry or hot summers?

Finally, we will welcome discussion of more general questions regarding fall/winter maintenance, what to do with leaves, mulching, and any other “hands-on” topics and experiences that members may like to bring up.

We look forward to learning from each other. See you there!
