Native Plant Nursery Series: 2. Spring Seed Sowing and Transplanting Seedlings Workshop

Native Plant Nursery Series

This three-part series will teach participants how to grow native plants for chapter activities as well as their own use. The plan is to propagate about 40 different species of native plants with each participant growing four species. All seeds and materials needed will be provided free of charge to participants.

This program is limited to 30 NPS members only.

Participant requirements:

  1. Member of the Native Plant Society of NJ
  2. Must have an outdoor area exposed to rain/snow and must maintain plants (watering, transplanting) through September 2024
  3. Expected to participate in all 3 parts of the program.

Programs in the series include:

  • Part 1, Winter Seed Sowing Workshop. Sunday, December 3, 2:00-4:00pm. Tulpehaking Nature Center, 157 Westcott Avenue, Trenton NJ 08690. This workshop will describe the requirements for propagating native plant seeds, demonstrate the techniques for winter seed sowing and guide the participants in sowing the seeds. Registration opens November 19.
  • Part 2, Spring Seed Sowing and Transplanting of Seedlings ( Sunday, April 21, 2:00 – 4:00 pm. Tulpehaking Nature Center, 157 Westcott Avenue, Trenton NJ 08690): In this workshop, participants will transplant seedlings from winter sowing as well as sow additional seeds.
  • Part 3, Plant Swap (September 2024): The plant swap will be open to the public with workshop participants entitled to a number of plants (tbd based on overall germination rates).
