Morris Canal Greenway Forest Restoration Walking Tour
October 8, 2022 @ 10:00 am – 11:30 am
Do you ever wonder what native plants we would see if it weren’t for all our suburban lawns, ornamental plants, and invasive species?
Our walk will be led by Rich Rockwell, who has been working to remove invasives and restore a forest oasis on the Morris Canal Greenway. Native species that would have grown along the Canal 100 years ago, such as asters, snakeroot, sedges, and wild sarsaparilla are now thriving.
The walk will include restoration sites that withstand heavy deer pressure. We’ll also learn about the strategies Rich has used to control invasive species: he is an Invasives Strike Force Crew Member with the NY-NJ Trail Conference.
Meet at Greenway Trailhead on Oak Tree Lane, Bloomfield.
Use the address 28 Pierson Street for navigation.
Park: on Oak Tree Lane on the canal trail side of the street. Additional parking on side streets.
Length: Walk is about 1 mile
