From Sassafras To Salicornia

October 17, 2022 @ 4:00 pm 5:30 pm

We will begin at the parking lot behind Veterans’ Memorial Park in Galloway and walk along a wide forested trail as the habitats change remarkably quickly – from sassafras, oaks, and persimmon past sweetbay magnolia and tupelo to the beautiful salt marsh of Reed’s Bay in only a quarter mile. We will be identifying the most interesting plants along the way. Your feet will stay dry on the shell-lined trail at the Bay and Salicornia (glasswort), groundsel bush, marsh elder, Spartina, and other salt marsh plants will be at their best.

Come join us and bring your camera. (Binoculars and a wildflower field guide may also be helpful but are not necessary.)

Directions: Veterans’ Memorial Park and Glenn-By-The Sea share the same address on Rt 9: 636 South New York Road, Galloway. Watch for signs to Veterans Memorial Park – across from the Reformation Lutheran Church – turn in there, and follow the drive that ends at a large parking area on the Glenn-By-The-Sea property. We will gather there at 4 pm.
