Our Native Plant Month Bioblitz, held throughout April (Native Plant Month) 2025, was a tremendous success, with 30 observers recording 2,052 observations of 404 native species across New Jersey. Thanks also to the 143 identifiers who provided expert confirmations, enhancing the accuracy and value of this important ecological data.
April’s observations were dominated by spring ephemerals, such as Yellow Trout-lily, Common Blue Violet, Virginia Spring-beauty, and Bloodroot, highlighting the beauty and ecological significance of these fleeting spring blooms.
Bioblitzes play a critical role in conservation efforts by documenting species distributions, tracking plant populations, and informing ecological management practices. By participating, community members actively contribute to scientific knowledge and environmental stewardship.
You can continue to use iNaturalist throughout the year to record and identify native plants. Every observation helps build a richer, more comprehensive understanding of New Jersey’s botanical diversity and supports ongoing conservation initiatives.
Thank you to all who participated and helped celebrate and protect New Jersey’s native plant heritage!
