The “Botanical Hiker” Speaking at November Sussex Chapter Meeting
November 18, 2024 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Heather Housekeeper, the “Botanical Hiker,” is presenting a program: The Edible and Medicinal Plants of Autumn at the Sussex Chapter November Meeting at the Sussex Wantage Library. She will describe the edible and medicinal plants that inhabit our backyards, wooded trails, and urban pathways. Heather will share a selection of easy-to-find, easy-to-identify plants via a slideshow. Learn the identifying traits of these plants and methods for weaving them into nutritious snacks, delicious teas, and valuable home remedies.
Heather is an herbalist, long-distance hiker, and founder of the School of Plant and Place Connection located in Milford, Pa. She holds certifications in herbal medicine, botany, taxonomy, and forest therapy. Heather has hiked thousands of miles on long-distance trails – including the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine – identifying, exploring, and foraging wild plants along the way. These journeys have deeply inspired her work as an herbal educator. For over a decade, Heather has been guiding others into the natural world through plant walks, herbal workshops, and seminars. She is the author of three plant-inspired books and the Wild Food columnist for Dirt Magazine. Heather believes plants are the conduit for connection with all of the natural world, and that by attuning to nature, within and around us, we can foster individual and collective wellness. Light refreshments will follow the presentation.
