September Tour of Native Container Gardens on Long Beach Island

Join the Jersey Shore chapter on Saturday, September 19th from 9:30 am to Noon for a tour of native container gardens at two locations on Long Beach Island.
The first stop will be the Long Beach Township Marine Education Field Station to see a native container garden created by two volunteers, Deb Cowles and Elaine Biddulph, as part of their Rutgers Environmental Stewards project on coastal native habitat. Deb will be on hand to explain their project, and Field Station staff will talk about the educational programs and marine research projects conducted at this facility on the Barnegat Bay.
The next stop will be Deb’s nearby yard, where she grows mostly native species in over 300 containers of all sizes, from one inch to 15 gallons. Deb has 20 defined garden sections, including a gravel garden, pollinator patch, hedgerow, woodlands, potted pathway, planting and propagating station, and several native container groupings (including water and peat bog gardens).
Registration is required for this free event, which is limited to a maximum of 12 people. Directions to the tour locations will be sent to those who register.
