Native Plants in Riparian Buffer Restoration

November 7, 2024 @ 7:00 pm 9:00 pm

Join Robert Lucas, Restoration Coordinator at Raritan Headwaters (RHA), as he shares how he has planted thousands of native trees and shrubs in degraded riparian buffers. He will share how homeowners can restore any water adjacent habitats on their own property using native plants that will be resilient for the changing climate. Focus on why these habitats are critical for native plant restoration as well as tips on protecting plants from deer browse and other herbivores, species selection, follow up care and more.

Robert joined RHA in 2022 as the Restoration Coordinator. He has previously worked as the Stewardship Coordinator for the Sourland Conservancy where his work focused on the reforestation of riparian zones and upland forest communities within the Sourland Mountain region. He has also previously interned with United Plant Savers learning about the various challenges wild medicinal and edible plants of commerce face in our globalized world. He holds a B.S. in Biology with a concentration in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from University of California, Los Angeles. He was born in Southern California and lived in Southeast Asia for 8 years. He loves all things food and looks forward to morels, ramps, chanterelles and wineberries every year.
