Native Garden Tour in Bayville

Tour Lisa’s “food forest” and permaculture-inspired yard!

September 7, 2024 @ 10:00 am 12:00 pm

Join us for a tour of Lisa Mazzuca’s productive home garden in Bayville. Lisa is the owner and caretaker of this food forest in its ninth growing season in 2024. Her permaculture-inspired property features over 130 different species of perennial plants, focused mainly on food and herb production. In September, Lisa is likely to have fruit trees ready to harvest and maybe even some ripe paw paws to share!

Her garden design uses biomimicry to simulate natural forest systems to best take advantage of space and microclimates. Biodiversity is prioritized and soil health maximized in this purposefully designed polyculture system. Lisa has placed a strong focus on integrating native plants into the landscape, and she delights in learning and sharing how so many native plants are useful as both food and medicine.

Those who toured her garden a few years ago can look forward to some changes, including new fruit tree guilds, a grape arbor, new raised beds for the asparagus, and changes to drainage and the rain garden.

The guided tour will include detailed information about permaculture, garden design, and plant selection. We’ll also see Lisa’s greenhouse made from recycled windows and slider doors, various composting systems, and biochar production. The tour will wrap up with native plant door prizes and light refreshments.

RSVP so we can provide you with Lisa’s address and know how many to expect.
