Home Garden Tour – Lawrenceville
July 20 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Join us for a tour of Sally’s ongoing experiments in native habitat gardening. The focus will be on three sites in the front yard — full sun, shade, and partial sun — all three of which feature some berrying shrubs and herbaceous perennials. Along the side of the yard is a new experiment in lawn reduction using native grass (muhlenbergia capillaris). Since 2020, Sally has added somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 species of indigenous plants, many of which now self-seed and move around in fascinating ways. After four years of growth and further additions in the sun and shade sites, there is no longer any need for mulch. Violets make up most of the green mulch, though there is an ongoing struggle to remove invasives like creeping charlie and star of bethlehem. Sally will also describe how she has dealt with an ever increasing amount of deer browsing, despite having planted primarily deer resistant species.
Program is free but registration is required. Street Address will be sent to participants during the week of July 13th. Rain date is July 27th.
