Free Chelsea Chop & Weed Management Workshop

June 13 @ 10:00 am 11:30 am

Rain Date – June 14th

Workshop: This hands-on workshop will teach participants two aspects of tending to native gardens: weed management and the Chelsea Chop.

For weeding, we’ll discuss the pros and cons of several weed management strategies as well as identifying common weeds. Participants will also learn the pros and cons of the Chelsea Chop, a pruning technique that shortens the stature and extends the bloom time of summer and fall native flowers. You will receive a handout of which flowers most benefit from it.

The Chelsea Chop is best done in mid-June, so you can go home and do it in your garden!

Bring: Please bring garden gloves and hand pruners if you have them (if not, we will have extras available).

The Greater Newark Conservancy: Since 1987, the Conservancy has been a leading force in urban agriculture, environmental education, and community wellness. You will have a chance to explore its gardens at your leisure after the
workshop.
